Site 2: Stanley Drain
This site is located in the Ventura River just at the
confluence with the Stanley Drain. Stanley Drain drains semi-industrial
and brown fields areas of northern Ventura. Access is from a pullout
off the side of the south-bound 33 Freeway, just before the City of
Ventura sign. The site is approximately 200 yards away from the parking
area. The river basin is wide here as well, yet the flowing portion
of the river that we sample is located on the freeway side of the basin.
There is another channel across the river bed. The brush is quite heavy
at this site, yet the stream flow is quite fast and narrow. Fish and
amphibians have been seen in the faster portions of the stream at this
site.
